Ron PaulThere is an on-line poll which asks, “If Ron Paul runs for President in 2012, who should be his running mate?”

I was informed of this poll via an email from Chuck Baldwin, the 2008 Constitution Party candidate for President. Chuck was endorsed by Ron after Dr. Paul withdrew from the race. IMHO, Dr. Paul could do a lot worse than have Chuck as his running mate. What do you think?

At the polling site you can check up to five running mates for Dr. Paul. Here is the list of VP candidate names in the order of preference when I voted on the evening of 11/06/2009 (the ranking is not necessarily my preference):

Peter Schiff
Lew Rockwell
Jesse Ventura
Rand Paul
Chuck Baldwin
Dennis Kucinich
Sarah Palin
Michele Bachmann
Pat Buchanan
Gary Johnson
Jim DeMint
Michael Badnarik
Other
Adam Kokesh
Glenn Beck
Alex Jones
Alan Grayson
Mike Huckabee
Lou Dobbs
Mitt Romney
Mark Sanford
Michael Bloomberg
Cynthia McKinney
Chuck Hagel
Wayne Allyn Root
John McCain
Mel Watt

Total Voters: 8,593
I found it interesting that Andrew Napolitano has been added to the list and in fact has floated to the top, slightly ahead of Chuck Baldwin. I do not know if his wide media audience has anything to do with it, but it may. My primary angst opposing Napolitano is his championing a ConCon (Constitutional Convention). I think if that occurred, the loss of our country would be assured. I would not vote for his being on the ticket unless he rescinded that stance.

There are people on that list that I do not know much about and in particular not much about their political philosophy. But I do know that if Dr. Paul ran with any of the following then I would be hard pressed to vote for him. That said, I doubt, unless I’m missing something – or missing a lot! -, that Dr. Paul would run with any one of the following:

Glenn Beck (saying Ron Paul supporters were terrorists does him in for me, a true demagogue, mentally unstable)
Michael Bloomberg (Mr. anti-Second Amendment! The glaciers would be receding from Hell before I would vote for him or anyone associated with him, your basic joke, particularly since he was voted into office 3x by New Yorkers)
Alan Grayson (why is a progressive, read socialist, on this list? another joke)
Chuck Hagel (another ‘are you kidding me’ candidate, voted for Iraq war, was on short list of VP candidates with the SOB and said he would run with Obama as VP, he’s a joke)
Mike Huckabee (he is as phony as a three dollar bill, pro-illegal immigration)
Dennis Kucinich (to far to the left, statist)
Mitt Romney (Mr. Flip-Flop? You have to be kidding)
John McCain (SOB (Son Of a Bush) lite and WAY too old anyway, should run for dog catcher)
Cynthia McKinney (Ms. Capital Hill police basher? What a joke)
Mel Watt (those that suggested this bad joke should be banned from on-line polls until they write out the Constitution 200 times)

The following list contains those that I believe are better than the first list but far from first string for multiple reasons. What do you think?

Michele Bachmann (strong Christian but is too closely aligned with Karl Rove, the SOB, and Dick Cheney, most definitely a Republican party player, not suitable to run with Ron Paul)
Jim DeMint (on the right side of numerous issues including small government but endorsed Mitt Romney, a party (Republican) man, may be best remaining in the Senate)
Alex Jones (he needs to remain in media where he can be most effective, not a VP candidate, too passionately into conspiracies, but seems to be on the people’s side)
Dennis Kucinich (some good libertarian principles but also to much big government, Democrat, not a good or viable choice)
Sarah Palin (another Republican party woman, too closely allied with McCain, probably going to mount her own campaign for president, did not admit government involvement in housing crash)
Wayne Allyn Root (too much like a used car salesman, VP Libertarian candidate associated too closely with Bob Barr, otherwise mostly on the right side of the issues)
Mark Sanford (talk about politically self-destructing, but is a Randian)

The following list contains my first string picks. Generally good guys but pretty sure some among them would not work out. Others should get more experience and for others it would be a shame to lose them from their current commitments. Your take?

Michael Badnarik (on the right side of most of the issues (IMHO) but seems to have a tough time on the political circuit, endorses Ron Paul, 2004 Libertarian Presidential candidate, a possibility)
Chuck Baldwin (among the top candidates for VP, strong Constitutional candidate, Ron Paul endorsed for President)
Pat Buchanan (Pat has some baggage some of it pretty strange but is generally on the right side of issues, he knows the players, not sure he would want second billing)
Lou Dobbs (he is well spoken, usually on the right side of the issues and intelligent, maybe so)
Gary Johnson (did well as Gov. of NM, endorsed Ron Paul in 2008, famous for his “Seven Principles of Good Government”, may be running for President in 2012 himself)
Adam Kokesh (a possibility, maybe too one issue focused, supported by Ron Paul in NM congressional run, need to know more)
Rand Paul (son of Ron Paul, would make a strong candidate but too early, should cut teeth in Senate first, good choice)
Lew Rockwell (libertarian political commentator, activist, proponent of the Austrian School of economics, and chair of Mises Institute, long time Ron Paul friend, right-wing libertarianism (with which I strongly identify with) but has not held public office, would be a shame to lose Lew to politics, good guy)
Peter Schiff (has announced 2010 CT Senate campaign, we need Peter in the Senate, 2008 financial adviser to Ron Paul, started very successful Euro Pacific Capital in 1996, run for Executive office later Peter, cut your teeth in the Senate, right on the issues)
Jesse Ventura (where does one start with Jesse? he has many libertarian views, but supports light rail, abortion, but wants larger role for third parties in politics, thinks D&R parties corrupt, says organized religion a sham for weak minded, lose cannon, may run in 2012 himself, probably too much glitz for Ron Paul, would over shadow him)
