Bush has stated that handing control of our ports to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is not negotiable and on Friday, February 24, 2006, said he wouldn’t reconsider his position. Further, he wanted, via our elected congressional representatives, our immediate acquiescence. Now we learn there are not six ports involved but twenty-two!
All the rhetoric and rationalization aside, yeah the UAE guys have been generally supportive, yeah many Arabs don’t have their turbans on too tight, yeah, god forbid we look like politically incorrect racists in not accepting our Islamic brethren, yeah many of the same US blokes will be working the docks, and yeah we have the US Coast Guard to protect us.
But, excuse me, if the UAE operates the docks, won’t there be MORE Arabic personnel around (just overseeing things of course)? Doesn’t that alone make it more difficult for our esteemed and highly efficient bureaucrats (read, those who brought you 9-11 and the resulting Patriot Act) to police the situation. I mean, isn’t that what we want, more Arabic/Muslim guys running around with security access to our docks. Hello, doesn’t that make it easier for them to move against us? Does anyone actually think that ALL (remember it only takes a few) UAE personnel are totally incorruptible and have our best interest at heart? If so, welcome to Wally World.
What kind of person would champion, no, insist on such a situation. Seems to me that our erstwhile president is either an idiot, has his hands in the till or brokering for power, or is a traitor. I don’t have the space here to argue the first two but consider that Bush is not closing our borders (in fact, just the opposite), Bush pushed NAFTA and is now pushing CAFTA and wants Canada, the US, and Mexico to become essentially borderless, Bush is illegally spying on residents of the US without judicial oversight, the Bush administration brought you the Constitution shredding Patriot Act, Bush is having our young men and women killed in Iraq because Sadam put a contract on his daddy, Bush is bankrupting this country, etc.
Bush: idiot, opportunist, or traitor … you decide.
